National Parrot Rescue and Preservation Foundation  National parrot rescue and preservation foundation - providing information on parrot education, conservation, and rescue. An annual seminar, Parrot Festival, presents avian experts on various topics such as parrot behavior, nutrition, health and conservation.

Pet bird care  This page contains links to pages and sites that have answers to questions about pet birds. Much of the content is written by a group of 3000 people from all walks of life who write articles about topics they know well. Other sites come from books and other published sources that contain useful answers.

The Aviary A complete guide to companion and pet birds. Weekly articles, thousands of annotated links and lots of resources to the best bird information on the Internet.

Avian Welfare Resource Center  A coalition of avian welfare and rescue groups whose aim is to prevent abuse of captive birds, rescue and place displaced birds, and support  survival of wild birds and their natural habitats.

Bird Hotline Their goal is to reunite lost birds with their families through lost & found links and to educate the public about bird care.

Nova's A.R.C. An animal rescue center in eastern Pennsylvania, specializing in the rescue of exotic birds. They provide a permanent home for unwanted, abandoned, homeless birds.

Rescue Me, An Avian Sanctuary A tax-exempt, non-profit sanctuary for unwanted tropical birds.  The Sanctuary gives them a permanent home. Their education programs use live birds to illustrate the behaviors, characteristics and essential roles that each species plays in its natural habitat.

Parrotdise Bird Rescue Their goal is to educate families in the care and responsibilities of proper bird care. They accept unwanted parrots and adopt them to qualified individuals who will give them the proper care they deserve. Birds that are not acceptable for adoption will be placed in a sanctuary where they can live out their lives in as natural an environment as possible. Operated solely on donations and adoption fees.

Cat Focused   Discusses cat care, anatomy, health, senses, and how to choose a cat and prepare your home for kittens.

Siamese Rescue  A group of individually operated non-profit rescue organizations to rescue homeless and abandoned Siamese cats and place them in carefully screened homes.

Save The Cats Inc. A non- profit organization dedicated to helping the stray cat population of Bucks County. They believe that educating the public about spaying, neutering, and responsible pet ownership, is the key to reducing the stray cat population.

Seagull's Guinea Pig Compendium  Their focus is to give current and future pet owners the knowledge they need to help their guinea pigs attain, and exceed, their five-to-seven year expected lifespan. It has a detailed care guide and general articles about guinea pigs.

The History of the Guinea Pig A very interesting article about the origins and domestication of our favorite South American rodent.

The Rabbit Habit  A non-profit volunteer organization in the Philadelphia area. They rescue abandoned or unwanted domestic rabbits, foster them, spay and neuter and place in suitable permanent homes. They also support and educate with information on house rabbit lifestyles, care and health from reputable printed materials.

PA Ferret Rescue Association Devoted to helping the needs of ferrets and ferret owners in Pennsylvania and nearby communities. They have shelter facilities in Centre and Westmoreland Counties in Pennsylvania. This website is meant to give an introduction to their shelter and provide information about ferrets.

Ferret Hollow Shelter and Rescue A  collection of links to web sites of interest to ferret fans; supplies, diets, toys, information.

  

 

Wildlife

Peabody the Canada Gosling

National Wildlife Federation Education, inspiration and assistance for individuals and organizations to conserve wildlife and other natural resources. Lots of interesting articles about the wildlife in various habitats, including our own back yards.

Project Feeder Watch Operated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in partnership with the National Audubon Society, Bird Studies Canada, and Canadian Nature Federation, it is a winter-long survey of birds that visit feeders at backyards, nature centers, and other locales in North America.  Participants learn about winter birds and how their populations are faring. They also contribute to the science and conservation of North American feeder birds by helping scientists track broad scale movements of winter bird populations and long-term trends in bird distribution and abundance.

The Nature Conservancy  Their mission is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.

Wildlife in Pennsylvania  Operated by the PA Game Commission, this site contains numerous species guides and references for those interested in Pennsylvania wildlife.

Aark Wildlife Center  The Aark provides medical care, food and shelter for birds and mammals that have been injured or have been orphaned and are too young to care for themselves. The goal is to return them  to their natural environment as quickly as possible, able to fend for themselves.  Annually over 4,000 birds and mammals find aid and shelter at the Aark.

Wildlife Protection Network The Wildlife Protection Network seeks to educate the public about the scientific and humane treatment of wildlife, so that the public can reclaim control of their wildlife in an ecologically responsible manner.

CARE FOR ANIMALS  Presented by the American Veterinary Medical Association, this fun and educational site is full of tips about acquiring and caring for pets. Burlington County Animal Alliance  A private, nonprofit animal advocacy group, focused primarily on rescue and adoption of shelter dogs and cats from the Burlington County Animal Shelter.  They advocate spaying and neutering of all companion animals to counteract the overpopulation of dogs and cats and end the tragedy of euthanizing healthy but unwanted animals.

Hope for the Animals  A no-kill, nonprofit volunteer dog and cat rescue organization in Morrisville, PA. Their goal is to find loving, safe homes for unwanted dogs and cats of all breeds. They do not currently have a working shelter. Available cats can be seen on the internet and at the PETsMART in Newtown, PA. Dogs can be seen on the internet  or by making an appointment once your application is approved. They also keep current pictures of available dogs at the PETsMART.

Montgomery County SPCA  A nonprofit organization dedicated to caring for unwanted, lost and abused domestic animals.   Their facility in Conshohocken  houses administrative offices and small domestic animals. The Perkiomenville facility includes a pet cemetery and horse farm along with facilities for small animals.  Their newest facility for small domestic animals is in Abington.

Petfinder.com  Adoptable pets from animal welfare organizations across the country.  You can search adoptable pets, locate shelters and rescue groups, browse their resource library, post classified ads for lost or found pets, pets wanted, and pets needing homes.
