TORTOISE TIDBITS

A healthy diet for your tortoise should consist of the following:

Vegetables (85%)  

Majority should be dark green leafy types
 
 

Bok-choy, Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Collard,
 

 

Kale, Mustard, Radish greens, Turnip greens
 

 

Clovers, Dandelions, Grasses, Legumes,  Weeds (untreated lawn only!)
 

 

Mulberry and Grape leaves, Roses, Nasturtiums, Hibiscus, Carnation flowers
 
 

Cured Alfalfa or Timothy hay, soaked alfalfa pellets
 

 

Green pepper, Jicama,  Radishes, Soy Bean sprouts, Summer and Winter Squash, Thawed frozen mixed veggies,
 
Fruits (10-20%) Apples, Bananas, Dates, Grapes, Mangos, Melons,
 
  Nectarines, Oranges, Peaches, Pears, Plums,
 
  Prickly Pear fruit, Rasperries, Strawberries, Tomatoes
 
High Protein Foods (<5%) Cereals (Bran flakes, Crisped Rice, Corn Flakes, Grape Nuts)
 
  Dog food (dry maintenance)
 
  Eggs (scrambled or hard-boiled with shells)
 
  Parrot chows
 
  Sardines with bones
 
Supplements Dust food with a Calcium supplement at every feeding.
 
  Dust with a multivitamin powder 1 to 2 times weekly.
